Anti-violence topics

Domestic violence and abuse

It does not matter who the perpetrator is, whether the violence is physical, emotional, psychological or more- we condemn all of the above. We will direct people who need help dealing with domestic violence and abuse situations to agencies who are best placed to deal with their immediate needs.

Homelessness

We all need a place to call home, even if it is a hotel, living by yourself with other individual people, or if whether your whole family has been made homeless. Having a home is a human right, and even if you have no place to call home, resources need to be made to get people into safe homes that meet their housing needs. We will actively promote their plight, and work on projects to highlight the problem and embark on capital projects and on running cost fundraising that will allow homeless shelters to operate and expand where possible.

Weapon Ownership

In an ideal world, guns would only be used for sport, knives for cookery, and baseball bats for…baseball. However, weapons exist and are used in a violent way that deprives others of their human rights- especially the right to life. We condemn the use of all weapons in a violence and provocative way. We want to see existing laws on weapon ownership more strictly enforced, and all weapons owners should be educated in the use and safe storage of their weapons.

Mutual Physical Fighting- in private or public

There’s fighting, and then there’s staged fighting and practice fighting.Obvious violent fighting is condemned, especially when at leat one o the participants did not consent. If two or more people want to engage in a fight, and all parties agree to the rules, then it is their human rights to do so.  If done privately, then it is OKbecausee the participants are willing, but if someone gets hurt then the fight must stop immediately, as this could be a human rights violation.

Animal Rights

Animals are creatures that often depend on humans for their existence and we must treat our animals and pets in a manner that is consistent with the principles of human rights. They have the right to shelter, food, a safe environment, to receive love, affection and the necessary health care. We are against animal abuse in the same way that we are against human abuse.

The Environment

Planet Earth is the only planet that we 100%  know can sustain life. As such, we need to take care of it otherwise we will, in due time, suffer. We support all kinds of efforts to keep our planet “clean”, from simple matters of recycling to further advocacy for programs that will protect the global environment.

School Bullying and Bullying in the Workplace

Bullying is another form of violence- it is the intimidation of one person by another., who is often perceived by the victim to be more powerful and has some mystic force over them that persuades their victims to often humiliated in public. Most schools thankfully do have some kind of antibullying program, to those who don’t, wee need to identify and advocate their respective school leaders that such a program should be in place. In the workforce, adults do bully their work colleagues too, and it even goes up and down the chain of command. We encourage all mid-size to large companies to have some means where an employee can voice their grievance about another fellow employee without fear of retribution.
